John Jenkins

Poet, journalist and teacher John Jenkins has written eight books of poetry and co-written two books on Australian music, Arias - recent Australian music theatre (Red House Editions 1997) and 22 Contemporary Australian Composers (NMA Publications 1988). He has also written on musical subjects for Meanjin, Overland, 24 Hours and Agenda magazines.

In 2003 John won the national Shoalhaven prize for poetry. His verse novel, A Break in the Weather, was shortlisted for the FAW Christina Stead award for fiction.

He has also written for radio and live performance, edited books of travel stories and anthologies of short fiction. He now teaches creative writing subjects in TAFE colleges and universities. Prior to this, he worked for almost 20 years as a journalist - both in Australia and overseas.

John is winner of the 2004 James Joyce Foundation Suspended Sentence Award. and travelled to Ireland in October.
